Little BigFoot

The dream this morning takes place on a slushy winter city street. I am kid again and my dad is driving with us kids. I have three brothers and two sisters. A brother and sister are seated up front next to our dad. Two other brothers, a sister are seated in the rear seat. I am on the driver's side seated behind the old man.

It is a cold winter day and dad is driving the big old green 1974 Mercury Ford station wagon from my childhood. I remember that old car was built like a tank. Dad hit a deer with it once, back in 1979, and hardly damaged the old beast. We threw the deer on the trailer we were hauling and it just kept on going, until got home with no problem. We ate the deer the next day. Dad had a big starving family to feed back then.

In this dream we are driving down a busy street on the outskirts of town. The weather is bitter cold and nasty. The sky is grey and overcast. It was snowing earlier but now the snow has turned to sleet and the street has become a sloppy mess. Suddenly, a UPS delivery truck quickly swerves from the lane on our right, into our lane, and then back into his own lane and then makes a hard turn down a side street to our right. Apparently the driver made the manoeuvre to avoid hitting something in the road. Dad recovers and narrowly misses the delivery truck. He rolls down his window. He wants to hurl insults at that driver, however, he sees something in the road. There is a tangled hairy looking clump of something just within the reach of his hand. Dad grabs it in his left hand while driving with the right. He flings the scruffy wet object onto the far floor to his right. The hairy thing has a human-like face. It is a young bigfoot! It is small like a two year old human toddler. We see two dark eyes, a wide nose and mouth in a mass of wet hair staring back at us. The creature was in shock and glared back at us with no emotion.

All of us kids look at it with amazement and pity. The poor thing was cold and wet. I am looking down at it from the back and yell to my siblings, "Let's cover him with our coats and blankets!". Next, we toss them at him from every direction onto him. We are determined we are going to do our best to warm, revive and care for him. I then wake up.

Dreaming about my father suggests I am thinking about authority and protection. I should consider those aspects of my current relationship with him and how I can incorporate his finest qualities in my own life. It was quite noble of him to rescue that young bigfoot.

The young bigfoot is a very interesting symbol. It represents the unknown and the unconscious. Bigfoot is a mysterious creature and very primal in nature. It is interesting that my siblings and I feel the desire to preserve and protect him just as our father cares for us. I think my conscious self is analysing my nurturing nature. The wife and I are focused on trying to start our own family. All these things weigh heavy on my mind. I seem to be struggling with the coming to terms about my ideas of father perhaps.

The dream is calling me to search my heart and soul. I need to think about this one. I need to prepare myself mentally and emotionally for whatever the future may bring my way.
