Saber Tooth Tiger at the Door
The dream this morning takes place in a world beset with the onset of a new ice age. The climate has been getting colder over the course of many years and I am alone in the wilderness and wandering looking for food. My clothes are dirty and tattered and I am covered in furs.
I can hear the wind howl and see snow is falling as I hike over a ridge. The terrain looks very much like the Bad lands of South Dakota. I discover on a downward slope an old abandoned Suburban SUV. Who ever drove it here got it wedged in between some logs and small boulders. I think they were driving fast and misjudged how rugged the landscape was ahead of them.
I climb onto the back seat of the vehicle. This is a great opportunity to find some refuge from the cold. Suddenly, I hear a voice talking to me, but I see no one. Is it an angel or my higher self? Someone or something is screaming a warning to me to prepare for an attack! The next thing I feel is the Suburban rocking side-to-side. A huge animal is roaring and attempting to get at me from outside the vehicle. It is an enormous saber tooth tiger and he is hungry! I am so startled that I awake from the dream.
The primary meanings associated with the tiger are will power, personal strength, courage, aggression and anger, either directed at you or internally felt towards others. Also a sense of unpredictability, be it actions, or feelings.
I think an understanding of the behavior of this saber tooth tiger and my feelings toward it just might help us decode this dream. I think the dream could be linked to an experience I had with my new job when my boss wanted me to re-train two new employees. They felt insulted and apparently have quit. They were hostile to my attempts to work with them and somewhat like the tiger these two were prideful and angry. I was caught in the middle in several ways, one, between them, and two between them, and my new boss. It was not a pleasant position to be in.
Another element is the hunger of the tiger. If you look at it from his perspective you would see he has had it pretty rough. There must not be much for him to hunt or eat, and he might see me as an unwelcome competitor for what there is or at least a tasty snack. I can relate to him. The new job has tapped into a hunger I had not realized I had. I want to succeed at it and I feel like I could be replaced, quite easily, should the boss wish it so.
The unseen voice raises another possibility. It could be my higher self or something divine looking out for me. Last night, I worked inside one bank where I failed to shut-off the alarm. Two policemen showed up while I was cleaning. Something kept screaming at me at some unconscious level to be prepared. There was a nagging feeling I might get shot if I was not careful. Who or what is the source of this nagging feeling or message? God? An angel or is it my unconscious nature? It is something to think about. The cops were able to restrain from shooting first and asking questions later. Thank God!
This dream has certainly left me with much food for thought. There are some intriguing ideas here to mull over. I will be reflecting on it for some time. I see things now from two perspectives. I know what it is like to be both the hunter and the hunted simultaneously. Hmmm?!
