Blue Bricks

The brief dream today seems to be wrapped in multiple layers of metaphorical meaning. Perhaps, there are some aspects that can be taken literal, but I am persuaded that this one needs to be interpreted through a lens of abstract thought, like one interprets abstract art.

In the dream I am building a house. I am building it with some unique blue ceramic bricks. These bricks are interlocking and roughly the same size as ordinary red bricks. They snap together like Lego pieces. My old army buddy, Kal, has told me about these bricks and has convinced me that they will be excellent building materials for my house. I quickly assemble some walls to about waist high. I am very impressed with how they work and how they look. Their beauty reminds me of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul. The historic mosque is popularly called the Blue Mosque in reference to it's stunning blue tiled interior walls.

Kal, tells me that these bricks once had a mundane use, they were insulated food containers. I see myself, in the past, at one time eating food out of them and cleaning them up for future use. I had not considered them previously for their construction use potential. It now occurs to me that it is quite an imaginative recycling concept. The bricks have an aesthetic appeal and they are easy to use.

The colour blue is symbolic on many different levels:

Blue: Peace, tranquility, cold, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, confidence, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, loyalty, sky, water, technology, depression, appetite suppressant.

Emotions:
Blue is seen as conservative. While Red is the colour of power and aggression. Brighter colours such as yellow and orange represent warmth not only with emotions but also with temperature. Cool colors are blue, green, black or any color with a dark shade. When someone is feeling down or depressed, it is said they are feeling "blue." When someone is angry they "see red." When someone is seen to be afraid or "chicken" they are called "yellow."

Well, as you might guess there are many levels of meaning associated with colours and in the interest of brevity I just address a few of the essential associations to give us a simple framework to attached our own interpretation specifically to my dream. My modus operandi has always been in dream analysis to sift through all the data to get at a core concept.

The big picture is that I am contemplating a literal move in the waking world. I am about to build a new life in a different city. The dream is an unconscious  metaphorical representation of what is about to take place in my conscious world. It is significant that I am using blue bricks. This is unconventional. It speaks to my personality. I almost never take the well trodden path in everything I do or have ever done.

I have a deep psychological need to create a peaceful living space. The colour blue highlights this need. I desire to have a place of peace, security, and emotional harmony. The unusual building materials suggested by my friend show that I am open to consider an alternate unexpected method toward attaining this life goal. I am doing the work but, I have no blue prints, I am operating with only a vague sense of the potentials, in my mind, and have not yet formally adopted a plan. The blue bricks are an experiment to see if they are a viable option. Once I see that they are I become sold on the concept.

My buddy Kal knows how I think and behave. He knows I would need to discover for myself if it was something I could do in order buy into the preposterous idea of using food containers to build a house. It is a clever tactic to steer me into accepting the idea and thinking I came to it of my own accord. They call this technique "Upaya" in Buddhism. Upaya is a Sanskrit word and it translates to "skilful means" or "method". Basically, the concept refers to any skill, activity or practice that helps to bring someone toward the realization of enlightenment. It can, in some instances,  involve lies and trickery to awaken a person to the truth. I have been had! Ha! Ha! Ha! Fortunately, I have a sense of humour about it.

I think we have fundamentally figured this dream out. The dream really speaks to some hidden inner desires my unconscious is having. My unconscious is saying, "Hey, pay attention here!"  It is wanting to put things into balance in my life. My conscious self would like to find a happy middle way. The unconscious drives are strong and may manifests themselves. It helps to be cognizant to these facts for my own spiritual health and growth. We shall see if my conscious self can steer my primitive self toward some sort of positive outcome. I will sleep on this and we will see what happens.
