Puppy dreams

The dream today is short and sweet. It had me rescuing two puppies from an animal shelter. A friend had died and his two puppies ended up in an animal shelter. I see myself opening a kennel and my friend's two dogs come to me and are so excited to see a kind familiar face. They leap and spin about. I then wake up.

I have an old friend who I visit often. He has four dogs who are pit pull mixes that he rescued. Those dogs adore him and I love to come over to pet and hug them.

I have always loved dogs. They are always so unconditionally loving. I have never had any dogs of my own. I have never lived long in anyone place for very long. My lifestyle has never been conducive to owning a dog. They are a huge responsibility.

Someday, when I retire, I would like to have a dog. They make such good companions. They are very therapeutic. Here where I live some of the homeless vets have therapy dogs. Their furry friends do much good for them. It is mutually beneficial for the both of them.

What can we deduce from this dream? Is my unconscious telling me I should get a dog? Or am I about to inherit a couple dogs? Perhaps, I don't know. It would be nice to have one, but I will be moving in a month or two. It just would not be wise from a practical point of view.

I should visit my old friend and his dogs. I hate to think he would pass away anytime soon and I could be expected to care for his dogs. Four dogs would be a huge responsibility! They are a huge burden to care for and to provide a place for them to live. If I had a home of my own I would do it, but I don't.

The unconscious sure has a way of provoking me to think and feel on such matters. That seems to be one of it's jobs. Does the unconscious have a purpose? Interesting question! On one hand you can say the unconscious just is and it has no ultimate purpose, but on the other hand, there are times when it seems to have a mission so to speak. It almost always provokes us to respond, act or at least think about the images and symbols it reveals to us. Many people in our modern world choose to ignore dreams and dismiss their impact or messages. They are unaware or reject any notion that dreams are of vital importance in their lives.

The unconscious is affected by consciousness. Dream analysis changes everything. It is the conscious trying to understand something that will, by it's nature, never be fully comprehended, but the attempt to do so has an effect on both the unconscious and consciousness. This effect is just like what we see in microphysics experiments and in what is called the observer effect. When a scientist watches experiments at the sub-atomic level strange things occur that defy logic. The scientist's mood and desires can affect what the results will be. The act of merely watching with his consciousness effects the results of the experiment. In the same manner dream analysis will have the same effect.

The conscious and unconscious mind compliment each other. Each new content that bubbles up from the unconscious is altered when apprehended by the conscious mind of the observer and with each new growth of consciousness, caused by dream interpretation, that in turn has immense impact and repercussion on the unconscious. So it is impossible to measure or predict what the effects are but be assured there are effects.

Dreams are as much a part of us as we are a part of them. We cannot be objective observers. The unconscious and consciousness affect each other in ways that will never be fully divined. For us as humans we cannot step outside the unconscious and think we can objectively measure or comprehend it. It is just like trying to say what is light. Is it a particle or a wave? The famous double slit experiment showed it all depends on if someone is consciously observing it What it really is can only be approximately described and will never be absolutely defined. Such is the nature of both the unconscious and of light.

So what can we conclude about this dream about puppies? The author loves puppies, beyond that, who knows. The dream affects my conscious heart. I am moved to compassion for all orphaned dogs. What effect this might have on my unconscious mind and the collective unconscious is anyone's guess. A seed has been planted will see what grows.
