The dream this morning was a visually interesting one to me. Something about it really makes me wonder what is going on in my unconscious and it's links to the conscious world. In my dream I see a resort. The resort is in a tropical location. I think it is the Caribbean or perhaps the Mediterranean. I can see palm trees and there is a grand stone archway above the main entrance. I think the sign says, "Rick's American Resort". Under the arch there are two enormous ceramic 1/4 size replicas of Vietnam War era Republic F-105 Thunderchief supersonic fighter bombers. They are mounted upside down and pointed outwards as if they were flying in formation. The whole thing makes for quite an impressive sight when you drive up to the resort.
The owner/manager of the resort is a tall bald African-American man. He looks like a football player, but in reality, he is a retired aircraft engineer from Boeing. I meet him in the hotel bar where he serves me a cocktail and tells me the story of his life and the construction of the resort. I see his two very young daughters with us. They are twins and look to be about 4 or 5 years old. They are very charming and cute. One is seated on the bar stool next to me and the other is behind the bar with her father. They laugh and love hanging out with their father, and I imagine may run the resort one day. The man is a very attentive loving father.
He tells me that his father was a very famous restaurant chef back in Jamaica. His father had taught him to cook and that the coconut shrimp recipe, he learned as a boy, is a very popular appetizer in his restaurant. The resort and restaurant was conceived as a way to honor the legacy of his father and to give him a challenge in his retirement. It is at this point the dream ends.
I have always yearned to visit a tropical location and spend the winter there. Winters are very brutal here in northern Michigan. Growing up here I would often fantasize about escaping to some warm and breezy Pacific island. My girl, Haki, is very fluent in French. Oh, how I would love to visit Tahiti with her! That would be a dream.
Why I should dream about this man and his resort seems odd to me. Perhaps it is some undiscovered envious part of my nature that I should dream this scenario? I don't know. It puzzles me. One weird synchronicity this morning is my case manager here at Patriot House was flying his 1/4 scale electric model Piper Cub plane in the neighborhood this morning. His plane is the same scale as the fighter jets in my dream. I think the engineer acquired his planes as souvenirs from his years of working at Boeing. Now I am really thinking I tapped into the collective unconscious with this element! It is more than a strange coincidence. So, like always, I am going to ponder this one a while and day dream about a tropical rendezvous.
