Cliff Robertson and a Mysterious Movie
The dream this time was about a Hollywood actor I have always admired while growing up in the 1970's. His name was Cliff Robertson. Robertson's tremendous film and television career spanned almost 50 years. His most notable film role was his portrayal of a young John F. Kennedy, in the 1963 film, PT 109. I had always enjoyed watching him act in everything he did. He died on September 10, 2011 just a day shy of his 88th birthday. Robertson was actually flying over New York City on the day of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. He was an accomplished pilot and owned several WWII era warplanes. This flying experience landed him several film roles. It got him a role in the British war film, Squadron 633. It is this WWII connection that is central to my dream.
The dream begins in WWII and I am seeing some sort of historical incident take place, but where it is and who the people are, of that I am uncertain. I see two young men and one young woman in their early 20's. They are somewhere in the mountains of Central Europe at an old castle. These people are in the basement of the old estate. The German Army is invading and like a swarm of locust, it is making it's way toward their location, it is late in the evening when they receive word of the invasion, and they are wandering about the castle discussing whether to stay or flee.
The dream suddenly moves toward the modern era, it might be the 1960's or 1970's. I can see Cliff Robertson at the old castle I saw earlier. He is here with the intention to produce a movie about the historical incident that occurred here years before at this castle with these young people. Robertson has employed some local people and is scouting the location. He plans to stay in the vicinity for the many months it will take to produce and direct this film.
No one seems to have lived in the castle for sometime. Robertson hires an older couple, a woman and her husband, to make the place liveable again. The woman speaks good English and she interprets between him and Robertson. They are dressed in traditional alpine folk clothing. She is wearing a dirndl and he wearing lederhosen. Are they Austrian, Swiss or some other nationality of the Alps? I do not know which one they are for certain.
Robertson had asked that a fire be started in the castle's central hearth to heat up the cold dark place for the night. The old man got a fire going using a lot of pine brush and it was creating dangerous sparks every where and had become a dangerous fire hazard that night. Cliff was up all night trying to tend to the fire to keep it from burning the castle down!
The next day, Robertson, sits down with the frau and her husband to get to the bottom of what happened. She tells him that her husband understood it that he was hired in a management role and not to be an on sight servant. A devilish smile comes across his face as his wife interprets to Robertson this statement. It makes me wonder who his sympathies were with during the war. He must realize what Robertson's movie is about and secretly would like to sabotage the project, or at least express his disdain for a man who served in the merchant marines for the allies during the war. This is when the dream ends and I wake up.
So what to make of this dream? I always liked Cliff Robertson. Here it is almost two years since he died from natural causes. Perhaps, Cliff is saying, "Hey, I'm still around, remember me?" I'm real curious if he actually had planned to make a movie, based on a real incident of WWII, that he had long wanted to produce and direct. It makes me wonder...
I could delve into all the symbolism of the castle, the war and the cast of characters involved in this dream. There are hidden secrets and dark mysteries afoot here in my unconscious again as represented by the castle. The way everyone is behaving in this dream sure makes me question what is going on and what the hell happened in this remote village all those years ago, and why is it all playing out in my mind? My unconscious is either impenetrable or my mind is protecting myself from some horrendous truth. Unsolved mysteries have always driven me crazy. I have always wanted to uncover them and get to the bottom line of them in my life, be it how the pyramids were built to who ate my sandwich. I hate to admit, but I'm a round up the usual suspects and screw getting a warrant kind of guy. I would be a bad cop, thankfully, I am not.
Once again, I'm left pondering what another dream was all about, and this one has me perplexed. I will be thinking about this one for a good while or until another grander, more compelling, dream comes along to outshine this one.
