On the Hunt

The dream this morning takes place on a far off world. My wife and I have won a free trip to a resort planet. The place we are going to is a hunting lodge located inside an immense crater. The lodge is at the base of the crater.

The dream begins with us flying down to the planet on a small shuttle spacecraft. The ship lands down at the rim of the crater. I see the shuttle do a vertical landing on a asphalt paved platform over looking the crater. My wife Hakima, myself and two other passengers disembark. The other two people are a mature man in his 60's and a young man in his early 20's. These two guys are paying customers who have come to hunt. On this world, in this location, there are white mountain goats. These goats look much like those you find in the Rocky Mountains of Earth, but these are bigger.

Down on the floor of the crater is the lodge and far off to the left I spot these snowy looking creatures. I get prone to pavement on the edge of the landing platform. I pull out a small telescope from the side pocket of my coat and I zoom in on these animals.

I spot one looking back at us. He looks magnificent! I really want to see one close up. Next, I see Hakima and I in a guest room in the lodge. We are unpacking our bags. I decide to let the wife sort things out for our stay. I am eager to stroll through the lodge and check out the amenities.

I walk down a hallway. From the last room on my left I hear voices and the door is slightly cracked open. I surreptitiously peak inside. In the room there are the two men we came down to the planet with and they are talking to a hunting guide, who is just out of my field of view to right, I cannot see him, but I can hear him. Between the hunters and the guide there are two enormous mountain goat carcasses hanging on meat hooks. The goats have been thoroughly skinned, gutted and dressed out. I look at them with envy. That is a lot of meat. You would think those were beef cows by the looks of them. I want to get one of my own. This is when I wake up.

I never been much of a successful hunter. I do love the taste of wild game though. I have eaten all sorts of critters over the years. I have dined on moose, venison, buffalo and even bear. I am very much a carnivore.

I am mostly into just being in the great outdoors and disdain the killing things for the sake of a trophy. However, I do confess to enjoying the taste of wild game. I wish I could afford to eat it more often. It can be so good and healthy when expertly cooked. There is a huge sense of satisfaction when you harvest that meat through your own honest efforts. It just taste so much better.

Interesting how this dream seems to have a bit of sci-fi thrown in. Curious how my subconscious often wants to give these dream adventures a bit of an exotic twist. It must arise out of my formative years in which I was steeped in science fiction books and movies. The old times are not forgotten.

The mountain goats symbolize surefootedness, the ability to climb fearlessly, going to new heights. The two hunters have gotten their prizes in this dream and I envy them. That does not speak too highly of me I suppose. I should rejoice for their good fortune and prosperity.

I have been guarding my emotional self a long time. I have become stoic. A lot of people have been abusing my kindness. I have lost my sense of self in all this. I give up my time and money to others. When I can be free and have blessings come my way? Is it selfish to think this way and have my desires met?

In this dream I win a trip, but it seems I do not get all of what the experience has to offer. My dream in this life is to get the whole enchilada. Life and dreams are elusive. There is an old adage: "Be careful what you wish for you just might get it". Okay universe! Let me have it! I am game. I will tell you if it was all it was cracked up to be.
