The Pipes are Calling

Dream this morning was a brief, but a vivid one. I was in a building. The place looks like some kind of library. Sunlight is filtering in from tall glass windows. A young man in his teens walks toward me. He is dressed exactly like the Scottish Highlander piper pictured above. The bagpipe he is carrying looks enormous, it is lying at his feet, he hoists it up into his arms and plays a brief bit of music for me, and then cranes the mouth piece to me, and asks if I would like to give it a try. I blow hard into the pipe and only get a feeble bleat to come out. Apparently it takes a good set of lungs to really get the instrument to play properly. I wake up disappointed that I did not get a chance to handle the entire bagpipe myself and give it a real go.

What an interesting dream! I have Scottish ancestry. Robert The Bruce was an ancestor of mine and I have always loved bagpipe music. The sound of the pipes really does something to me on an emotional and spiritual level. I feel like the ancestors are wanting to reach back through time to me today. I need to step back and seriously consider the meaning of this communication.

The standard interpretation for a dream about bagpipes goes if the music is pleasant and the player is not in dirty rags, then the dream is a good omen and lucky, and good fortune is to be expected. The young piper was clean and smartly attired in his kilt and Scottish uniform. The tune was short and pleasant to my ear.

The fact I could not get enough breath in my attempt to get some sound out of the instrument indicates I have lost my voice. My speech is going to be hindered. Something nice may be coming my way and I am going to have difficulty expressing my joy perhaps? The young piper was trying to encourage me to rediscover some aspect of my heritage. The pipes were heavy for him. It took considerable effort to lift them up to show them to me and to play. I must acknowledge the effort and honour what he has offered to me. How should I best do this? Well, I have made a record here of the gift of his visit. Yet, I feel like I should do more. I need to think long and carefully in what other ways I could respond. What will be the form and nature of this good fortune that is coming my way? I have much to think about with this dream.
