The Gorilla in the Room

The dream last night features a gorilla in the dark. I spent most of last night, while I was awake and prior to this dream, cleaning restrooms in an empty warehouse. This location appeared in my dream. I have finished cleaning the building and it is late into the night. I reach for the light switches and turn them off. I slowly walk down a long dark corridor to the front exit. I glance back as I reach the door. Suddenly, I hear a loud snort at the far end of the hall. There I see a huge gorilla looking much like the one pictured above. The gorilla is angry and he pounds his fist on the ground. I am stunned and wake up from my nap.

I was exhausted and slept in my car after completing my cleaning duties for the night. It is interesting how the location is reproduced in my dream. Clearly, the gorilla symbolizes the inner unconscious angst I am feeling in regards to the work I had just completed.

I got the work done and I did it well, but there is a level of resentment, and frustration I am quietly feeling, and repressing toward it. The gorilla is me and I am the gorilla. It is, as if, he is a reflection of me in the mirror.

I know I was wanting to be at home with my wife. I have been working hard at trying to find a balance between work and my personal life. Last night, was one of those nights, when work took over at the expense of my personal life.

The reaction of the gorilla is an expression of my silent rage. I am quite certain of that.  Gorillas are incredibly strong and yet gentle creatures. They can be violent when provoked. They prefer not to be most generally.

The gorilla emphasises a compassionate and balanced approach to leadership.  The gorilla manages others in a troop with temperance and gentle understanding. He is not a tyrant. Note the gorilla in this dream only snorted and pounded his fist harmlessly on the ground and did not pummel me. He got his point across without resorting to violence on my person.

It is said that to see a gorilla in a dream suggests that I am acting a little extreme in my behaviour. Perhaps, I am too ridged and stiff? Gorilla represents the wild and primitive aspect of my nature that I am repressing. The gorilla appearing in the dark suggests I am looking for a sense of security and protection in regards to sex. I need to find my way out of the dark and into the light. I feel lost and it is difficult to see my way out.

Lastly, the gorilla may mean I need to take action. It is an indication I need to be more assertive if I am going to get what I want in this life. I should not rest on my laurels, but it is time to earn my rewards.
