My Night Terror

The dream this morning could more rightly be called a nightmare. I dreamt I was sleeping in my bed room in my parents old farm house. It was the middle of the night and some shadow people have  burst forth into my room. They have crossed over from some dark alternate reality by way of our attic. I sense the presence of at least three spirits, but there could be many more. They grab at my bed covers from the foot of my bed and pull me toward them, covers and all, I am startled and snap awake to attention.

It was a quick dream that scared the crap out of me. My parents home in Northern Michigan is haunted. It was originally a dairy farm built back in the 1870s. The oldest barn was hand built out of logs and all without nails. My brother Larry was once shaken out of bed by the ghost of an old woman, presumably the farmer's wife, and was told to get up, or he would be late for work. I remember the day well. My brother screamed in response with terror.

Nightmares can be just as revealing as any other type of dream to analyse. I have long believed they do have to be debilitating. They can be very instructive and helpful in our lives in the process of understanding our own psychology, and the nature of the collective unconscious.

My subconscious has been influenced by several paranormal themed radio and television shows I watched. These shows all spoke about the subjects of this dream, i.e., shadow people, ghosts in the attic and night terrors. The seeds were planted into my subconscious imagination to play with. This much is apparent to me. Perhaps, I need to take care of what I feed my mind prior to sleep.

However, the ghost story and what happened to my brother was real. The incident was not the result of an overactive imagination. I know my brother and I believe what he saw was a real ghost. I have seen and heard ghosts myself and know them to be a real phenomenon.

This dream is an opportunity to explore a fringe area of dream research that I have not much delved into before. I have always believed that there is much overlap in the areas of the supernatural, the paranormal, and the collective unconscious. Psychic experiences, astral travel, past life recall and so much more is all interrelated and interconnected. I have seen and experienced so much of the whole spectrum of these things while in the dream state, or while in deep meditation, that I cannot deny it's reality. Science and quantum physics can explain some of what is going on, but much of it is still a mystery and may never be fully understood.

I know the reality of my felt experience and I realize I may never be able to persuade most people with my personal stories. So I won't even try to in this blog entry. I learned a long time ago hard sceptics can not be won over with personal anecdotes.

The whole issue cannot be understood, or dealt with, until science solves the hard problem of what is consciousness. Most scientists will tell you it is an artefact of the brain and others, like the mystics, and quantum mechanics, will tell you  that consciousness is non-localized and it's energy, and such. All I can tell you is it is complicated and from my experience something weird, and very mysterious is going on here.

Studies have shown that random number generators can be influenced by the collective unconscious until they become no longer random. A coherence effect can arise. Unconscious and conscious thoughts and energy can cause effects that manifest in all sorts of weird and seemingly illogical ways.
Our perceptions of time can be altered. Outcomes in history can be changed or effected. Remote viewing, out-of-body experiences and so much more are just some of the strange things can happen.

What is reality and consciousness, and how it works is a whole lot more complicated, and mysterious than what we can guess at or even imagine. We may never come to get a complete picture of it, but I think it is a good idea to be open minded about what we can understand and the amazing possibilities, and the implications of what we do know, and mat come to learn, and that is pretty incredible.
